Absolutely not. The school serves all Muslim families that want their children to learn Arabic as a language. Arabic skills are only a prerequisite for higher-level classes, not the beginners' class.
Certainly — learning Arabic enables Muslims to read, understand, and comprehend the Qur'an as well as the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Even if your child knows some Arabic, the school will help enhance language skills: vocabulary, sentence structure, grammar, and more.
Sunday school focuses more on teaching Arabic as a language, in addition to Islamic studies and Qur'an, and runs on a class model rather than a school-day model since we have ten levels that can't all be covered simultaneously.
Beginners (5–7) cover Arabic alphabets, short surahs, and basic Islamic studies. Level 1 builds on that with basic Arabic skills. Level 2 covers Arabic, Qur'an, and Islamic studies. Levels 3+ split into a separate Islamic Studies class and an Arabic & Qur'an class.

Beginner classes run 1.5 hours; Level 1, 2, and up run 2 hours. Levels 1–2 cover Arabic, Qur'an, and Islamic studies together. Level 3 and up have a separate Islamic Studies class, making school 3.5 hours total. See our Programs page for details.
